Tamara MC, PhD, is a journalist and applied linguist whose work appears in over 80 outlets including The New York Times, Huffington Post, and Newsweek. Her academic research examines how language functions as both a tool of oppression and a vehicle for liberation in high-control environments. Writing from lived experience as a cult survivor, child-marriage survivor, and human-trafficking survivor, she examines how coercive control operates through language manipulation and isolation tactics. Her forthcoming book, Poetry for English Language Learners (University of New Mexico Press, 2026), combines her linguistic expertise with innovative pedagogical approaches. She advocates for legislative changes to protect vulnerable populations and serves as an oral historian documenting survivor experiences across multiple forms of abuse.
